(Talk Media News) — Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) is leading the Republican primary field in Iowa for the first time, a new poll shows.
According to a poll conducted by Monmouth University, 24 percent of likely Republican Iowa voters back the Texas Republican, followed by Donald Trump at 19 percent and Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) at 17 percent.
Ben Carson, who at one point led the Republican pack, has fallen all the way to 13 percent after a series of controversial remarks and gaffes in recent weeks.
On the flip side, Cruz has been on a steady rise on the back of strong debate performances and key endorsements, including the endorsement of Iowa Rep. Steve King (R), whom 20 percent said made them more likely to back Cruz.
The poll was conducted among 425 likely Republican voters in the Iowa caucuses, and was conducted between Dec. 3 and Dec, 6 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.8 percentage points.
