WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump’s former attorney told a congressional panel he cannot rule out the possibility that his former boss colluded with Russia.

“I don’t know if Trump colluded with Russia but I have my suspicions,” Cohen told the House Oversight and Reform Committee during a hearing on Wednesday morning.

Cohen made the assertion in response to a question from Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.).

Schultz initially asked if Trump’s family was in involved in negotiating a planned Trump Tower project in Moscow.

“The company was involved in the deal, which meant that the family was involved in the deal,” Cohen replied.

Earlier in the hearing Cohen testified that he had lied to the House and Senate Intelligence committees during his 2017 testimony about when negotiations for the project had ceased. He said the statement he initially gave the committees about the project had been “reviewed and edited” by Trump attorneys in advance.

Last November, Cohen pleaded guilty to one of count of lying to Congress, acknowledging he misled lawmakers about the planned apartment project.

Trump has dismissed Cohen as a “liar” and has stringently denied allegations of collusion.

Trump has repeatedly called Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation a “witch hunt.”

Mueller is soon expected to release a final report on the nearly two-year-long probe.
