WASHINGTON – A majority of Americans approve of President Donald Trump’s handling of the U.S. economy, according to a poll released Thursday.

The CNN/SSRS poll found that 56% of the respondents said Trump is doing a good job on the economy and 41% said they do not think he is doing a good job on the economy. Meanwhile, 3% said they are not sure if Trump is doing a good job on the economy.

The survey included 1,007 respondents and was carried out April 25-28. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.

Thursday’s poll results show Trump at his highest economic approval rating since March 2017, which according to CNN projections was at 55%.

The U.S. economy has surged since Trump took office.

On Inauguration Day (Jan. 20, 2017), the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) closed at 19,827. Today the Dow is above 26,000.

When Trump took office the national unemployment rate was 4.8%. Today the unemployment rate is 3.8%.

However, Trump’s economic approval rating does not correlate with his job approval rating.

A CNN poll released on Wednesday said 43% of Americans think Trump is doing a good job overall. Most recent polls have more or less mirrored that result.
