Poll: 45% of Democrats say Biden has the best chance of defeating Trump

WASHINGTON – Nearly half of Democrats think former Vice President Joe Biden is the candidate with the best chance of defeating President Donald Trump in 2020, according to a poll released Wednesday.

The ABC News/Washington Post poll found that 45% of the respondents said Biden has the best chance of winning the general election.

Meanwhile, 18% said Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has the best chance of winning the general election.

Nine percent said Sen. Kamala Harris (Calif.) has the best chance of winning the general election.

Seven percent said Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) has the best chance of winning the general election.

The other 20 candidates polled below 7%.

The poll found that the respondents’ views on electability mirrored their primary preferences.

Twenty-nine percent said they support Biden.

Twenty-three percent said they support Sanders.

Eleven percent said they support Harris. The same percentage said they support Warren.

The other candidates polled at 4% or below.

The survey included 460 Democrat and Democratic-leaning voters and was carried out June 28-July 1. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 5.5 percentage points.
