WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump took a victory lap one day after Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III testified before Congress.

In a series of Thursday morning tweets, Trump quoted Fox News hosts analysis of the hearings.

Mueller testified on Capitol Hill for seven hours on Wednesday. He spoke with the House Judiciary Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence about the findings of his 448-page report on Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election. The report was released in April.

Mueller refused to answer many of the lawmakers’ questions. He stated from the outset that the report itself would be his testimony.

Mueller reiterated that his 22-month investigation did not uncover any evidence of collusion between members of the Trump campaign and Russian officials. Mueller reiterated that the report did not make a determination as to whether Trump had obstructed justice.

Mueller said the report did not exonerate Trump and that the president could be charged after leaving office.

Mueller’s memory appeared hazy at various points in his testimony. He incorrectly stated which president had appointed him U.S. attorney for Massachusetts in the 1980s and said he could not recall what Fusion GPS was.

Many Democrats saw the hearing as litmus test for impeachment. Analysts have said Democrats did not meet that bar.

At a news conference on Wednesday evening, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) reiterated her opposition to impeachment, saying the committees that are investigating the president have more work to do before they are able to go down that road.

Republicans said Mueller’s testimony did not provide any new information and that Democrats should cease Trump-Russia investigations.

Far-left documentary filmmaker Michael Moore was included among those who criticized Mueller’s testimony.
