ON THE HILL WITH DOUG CHRISTIAN

RICHMOND – TMN visited the campaign headquarters of the Democratic and Republican candidates for Virginia’s 7th district outside Richmond. The office of GOP Rep. Dave Brat was quiet and nearly empty on the eve of the election. His campaign manager was polite, but unwilling to talk about the campaign with TMN, as he ushered us out with speed.

We journeyed over to the campaign office of Abigail Spanberger, Rep. Brat’s Democratic challenger.

The contrast in energy between the two offices was startling.

Upon entering, we were welcomed by a canvasser headed out in the rain to knock on doors. We asked her what she was telling people she is speaking with.

Later, Spanberger told us of her approach to this election:

If we merely examine our experience with these two candidates’ campaigns, it appears to us at TMN that Virginia’s 7th District will flip to the Democrats tonight.
