WASHINGTON (Talk Media News) – Florida Gov. Rick Scott outlined a proposal to increase pricing transparency in hospitals from the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) on Thursday that would require all hospitals to post their prices online.

Rather than patients being priced out, this bill would create a consumer friendly healthcare environment and will help patients understand the quality care they will experience, Scott said from the conservative think tank in Washington, D.C. Scott said people have the right to know the cost of treatments before seeking them.

He said the law would work if consumers enforced it.

“You shouldn’t be charged a significantly more in an emergency visit than in an non-emergency visit,” said Scott.

The Republican governor said creating the infrastructure is feasible, using his knowledge as a former businessman and hospital executive to make this judgement.

“Everyone should know what everything costs,” said Scott. “The information should be posted online, and you’ve got to have penalties. I think it’s important.”
