The elderly woman who captured the nation’s heart when she danced upon meeting President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama turns 107-years-young Friday.
Virginia McLaurin of Washington, DC, met the First Couple last month while visiting the White House.
When Obama walked into the room, McLaurin began hopping up and down with excitement.
“She’s 106!” The president told Mrs. Obama standing just behind him.
“No, you are not,” entertained the first lady. “I want to be like you when I grow up.”
The timing of the encounter was extra special for McLaurin, meeting the first black president during African-American History Month.
Looking up at both the Obamas, McLaurin told the couple “I thought I would never live to get in the White House.”
“I tell you, I am so happy,” addressing Mr. and Mrs. Obama. “A black president and his black wife.”
