WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump named former Delta Airlines VP Steve Dickson as his nominee to oversee the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

If approved, Dickson would be the first person to serve permanently in the position since Trump took office.

The decision comes amid scrutiny over the Boeing 737 Max jets, two models of which have been grounded until further notice following two deadly crashes within five months.

According to a biography released by the White House, Dickson “was responsible for the safety and operational performance of Delta’s global flight operations, as well as pilot training, crew resources, crew scheduling, and regulatory compliance.”
