WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump told reporters Wednesday that authorities have learned more about the alleged Las Vegas shooter and that they will make an announcement “at the appropriate time.”
“We’re going to pay our respects and to see the police who have done really a fantastic job in a very short time. And yeah they’re learning a lot more,” Trump said. “And that’ll be announced at the appropriate time.”
On Sunday, a gunman opened fire on a country music festival from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel, killing 59 people and injuring over 500 others before committing suicide, authorities said.
Authorities have named 64-year-old Stephen Craig Paddock as the suspected shooter, but a motive has not yet been provided.
Trump made the remarks while leaving the White House for Las Vegas, where he is scheduled to meet with law enforcement personnel and first responders along with survivors of the shooting and their families.
