WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump told reporters Tuesday that the administration’s response to Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria last year was “an incredible, unsung success.”
“Puerto Rico was incredibly successful,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
The death toll for those who died from the 2017 hurricane was raised last month from 64 to nearly 3,000 people.
The president’s comments came as he and FEMA Administrator Brock Long provided an update on Hurricane Florence, a category four storm expected to hit North or South Carolina Thursday night.
“The safety of American people is my absolute highest priority,” Trump said. “We are sparing no expense. We are totally prepared. We’re ready. We’re as ready as anybody’s ever been.”
