WASHINGTON — Eric Trump, President Donald Trump’s middle son, blasted George Conway, White House aide Kellyanne Conway’s spouse, on Twitter Tuesday night for allegedly disrespecting his wife by frequently critiquing the president.

George Conway, an attorney who at one point was believed to have been on the shortlist for solicitor general, frequently takes snipes at the president on Twitter. Conway’s behavior has garnered him headlines because it often counters the rosy White House messaging put forward by his wife.

More recently, he co-penned a New York Times op-ed questioning the constitutionality of Trump appointing Matt Whitaker to serve as acting attorney general, arguing that it was unlawful since he was not confirmed by the Senate.

Eric isn’t the first Trump to take aim at the staffer’s husband.

When asked about the Whitaker op-ed, the president urged reporters to ask Kellyanne Conway about it directly.

“He’s just trying to get publicity for himself,” Trump said. “Why don’t you do this: Why don’t you ask Kellyanne that question, all right? She might know him better than me.”

“I really don’t know the guy,” Trump answered.

While Kellyanne Conway has at times bristled when asked about her husband’s tweets, she had one revealing moment in a Washington Post profile that seemed in line with the claim made by the president’s son.

“I think it’s disrespectful,” she told the Post. “I think it disrespects his wife.”

She later told the writer that she believed the comment was off-the-record, but no agreement had been made.

George Conway did not directly respond to Eric Trump’s tweets, but within a half-hour the lawyer retweeted comebacks made by others.
